Temporary Generator Installation Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS)Â
SWMS OverviewÂ
This task involves the installation of a temporary generator to supply power during outages or planned works. Key hazards include electric shock, backfeeding into the network, fuel handling risks, fire, manual handling injuries, and noise exposure. Control measures include isolating and locking out the normal supply, using appropriate changeover switches, earthing the generator correctly, and ensuring proper ventilation. Fuel must be stored and handled safely, with spill kits on hand. PPE includes hearing protection, gloves, and arc-rated clothing. Only qualified electricians are to perform electrical connections. All workers must be trained, inducted, and emergency procedures must be established.
